San Pablo Summer Internship Programs

2019 Interns

The San Pablo Summer Internship Program provides paid internships for youth 15 and a half years old and above who are in school or recent graduates. Students are placed in various city departments to gain experience working in local government. 

The Summer 2019 program will run July 8 - August 9* with a mandatory orientation the week of June 24th. Interns work up to 24 hours per week and up to 120 hours total, earning $12.00/ hr. The application for this summer is now closed. The deadline was April 18th.

Omar Martinez (Top Left) is currently a 3rd year at UC Berkeley, where he is pursuing a B.A. in Architecture, with a minor in City & Regional Planning. Upon graduation, Omar hopes to pursue a masters in Architecture and Urban Design, with the intention of becoming a licensed architect. He plans to focus on community-oriented projects that aim to invest in the success and progression of communities - socially, economically, and physically. Omar is currently interning in the Planning Division within Community and Economic Development. Through this internship, Omar hopes to gain experience in planning and zoning practices, to further understand the functionality of cities. 

Nancy Mejorado (Top Right) is a 3rd year at UC Berkeley majoring in Sociology with a minor in Public Policy. She was born and raised in the East Bay Area, specifically Hayward, where her family resides. Nancy has a lot of love for the Bay Area. She is interested in Law & Public Policy, specifically in relation to incarceration, policing, and accessibility to a just and fair American criminal justice system. Nancy’s career goal is to graduate from law school and become a Public Defender for Alameda County. She is an intern at Public Works, Environmental Programs Division. 

Nyanga Nyandemoh (Bottom Left) is a second year at UC Berkeley studying Social Welfare and minoring in Public Policy. She is in the pre-law track and after graduation, she hopes to attend law school, preferably in California. She is interning in the Youth, School, and Community Partnerships Division supporting the Beacon Director at Dover Elementary School and Helms Middle School. She is grateful for the opportunity and happy to be learning more about the City of San Pablo.  

Anna Santa Elena (Bottom Right) is a 4th year at UC Berkeley studying Molecular & Cell Biology, Global Poverty & Practice, and Education. She is interning in the Youth, School, and Community Partnerships Division. Through her internship, she hopes to learn more about the different ways she can engage with the community to promote, support, and nurture a better educational environment for youth. Post-graduation, she hopes to find a career in public health and/or youth education in the Bay Area or to attend graduate school back in her hometown of San Diego or the Philippines.
