San Pablo City Council Appoints Brian Hickey As New City Attorney

SAN PABLO CITY COUNCIL APPOINTS BRIAN HICKEY

AS NEW CITY ATTORNEY

(San Pablo, CA) The City of San Pablo City Council took action on Monday, September 18, 2023 to officially appoint Brian Hickey as the City’s new City Attorney. Brian replaces current San Pablo City Attorney Teresa Stricker who is scheduled to leave the City at the end of October 2023 following her recent appointment as the new City Attorney for the City of Santa Rosa, CA in Sonoma County.

“On behalf of the San Pablo City Council, we are very excited about Mr. Hickey joining our City. He has a solid reputation, skill-set, and municipal legal experience which spans nearly 17 years working in local government in both Northern and Southern California,” stated San Pablo Mayor Abel Pineda. "It is clearly evident to the City Council that Mr. Hickey is an accomplished municipal legal professional, with both public and private sector legal experience spanning nearly 25 years."

Brian earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics, and graduated from Pomona College in Claremont, CA in 1995. Additionally, he earned a Juris Doctorate from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, CA in 1998. While in law school, he worked as a Law Clerk in the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office. Following graduation, he began his legal career as an Associate Attorney at the private law firm of Best, Best & Kreiger, LLP in Riverside, CA where he worked from September 1998 to December 2006, with a stint at Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton, LLP in Costa Mesa, CA from March 2000 to June 2001. Brian was then appointed Assistant City Attorney for the City of Redondo Beach, CA in December 2006, serving until January 2012. Most recently, Brian has been serving as the Assistant City Attorney for the City of Walnut Creek, CA since January 2012. He is also a current member of the California State Bar.

“Mr. Hickey brings with him to San Pablo an incredible professional reputation and work ethic. He is very familiar with the myriad of municipal legal services required for local cities in the Contra Costa County region, and is an experienced municipal legal professional, especially in the areas of real estate, land use and housing. He will definitely ‘hit the ground running’ and bring a valuable dimension to the City’s Executive Management Team and City organization,” stated San Pablo City Manager Matt Rodriguez.

Hickey’s official start date with the City of San Pablo is Monday, October 16, 2023. His starting base salary is $265,000 annually.
