Suspension of Remote Public Comments for Upcoming Public Meetings

101223 Memo - Public Comments

IMPORTANT-FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Public agencies across California, including neighboring cities in the East Bay region, have recently experienced a barrage of hate speech through remote public comments known as "Zoom Bombing". The volume of these comments have disrupted public meetings and prevented public agencies' ability to conduct orderly public meetings.

To better serve the San Pablo community and ensure that the City conducts orderly public meetings and completes essential City business, the City Manager has suspended remote public participation through Zoom and telephone for the October 16, 2023 City Council meeting and October 24, 2023 City Planning Commission meeting. This action is consistent with the public comment processes other public agencies are implementing throughout the Bay Area, and the policy objectives contained in the City's Diversity Plan adopted via City Council Resolution #2020-078 on June 15, 2020 (See Attachments)

The City continues to encourage all members of the public to participate in San Pablo public meetings. Those who wish to provide public comment at the October 16, 2023 City Council meeting or October 24, 2023 Planning Commission meeting may continue to do so either in person in Council Chambers or via email to cityclerk@sanpabloca.gov Additionally, members of the public will continue to have the ability to view both meetings online via livestream at: https://sanpablo. legistar. com/Calendar. aspx
