Animal Services & Pests

Animal Control Services
Animal control and sheltering services are provided through an agreement with the Contra Costa County Animal Service Department. The CCC Animal Services has two animal shelters, one in Martinez and one in Pinole. The department handles lost and found animals, licensing, adoptions and emergency pet services. In addition, they offer numerous field services such as investigating claims of animal cruelty, picking up injured animals, and impounding stray animals.

Pets
The City of San Pablo encourages residents to be responsible pet owners. Pet ownership is a big commitment and one that should not be taken lightly. Being a responsible pet owner includes not only taking care of your own pet but also being considerate to your neighbors, local businesses, and the community.

The City of San Pablo, along with other cities and towns within Contra Costa County, has adopted the County Animal Control Ordinance. The County Animal Control Ordinance regulates the ownership and possession of animals for all of Contra Costa County. It includes a section on dangerous animals as well as the penalties or fines for each violation.

All dogs over 4 months of age are required to be licensed according to the County Animal Control Ordinance and are processed by the Contra Costa Animal Services Department. Before a license will be issued, a rabies vaccination certificate is required. In addition, the County offers discounts to pet owners if your pet has been spayed or neutered. The County Animal Control Ordinance provides free licensing of certain pets including guide/service dogs, police dogs, or pets whose owners are over the age of 65.
